Blue Grouse Estate Winery is certified sustainable and on their way to being certified organic.
The winery was named the Judges’ Choice – Best Overall Entry in the 2016 Vancouver Island Real Estate Board Commercial Building Awards and also won the Award of Excellence in the Hospitality category at the event.
This beautiful facility designed by Boxwood incorporates design features such as controlled solar gain to passively heat the building in winter and cool it in summer. Daylighting has also cut their electricity use by about 66%.
We are proud to be part of this great winery’s sustainability plan. In 2018 we helped them walk the talk by installing their ground sourced heat pumps and controls. This allowed them to heat and cool the wine tanks as needed and get colder water for processing the wine. It also improved the heating in the building.
In their own words,
The Blue Grouse Estate Winery’s philosophy evolves from the concept of “stewardship”, where our aim is to make everything we touch better when we leave it, than it was when we found it. We apply this to training our team of employees, the environment that hosts our vineyard and home, the vines we grow, the wines we make, the infrastructure which supports the winery and vineyard, and the economics of our business model – everything.
